LexiLint Chrome Extension

Last updated: October 3, 2026

Overview

LexiLint is a browser extension for proofreading webpages. Spell checking runs locally. Optional AI grammar sends text directly to the provider you configure. This policy also explains website analytics, payments, licensing, and support data.

Data Handling by Context

The LexiLint extension does not send page text to Ignite App. Its spell check runs on the device; when the user clicks Check Grammar, optional AI grammar sends the page's visible text (headings, paragraphs and list items) directly to the provider configured by the user.

Other interactions have separate data flows:

  • Website: igniteapp.net uses Google Analytics, and the hosting provider receives standard request data such as IP address and user agent. The LexiLint page also loads MailerLite's script for email sign-up forms; MailerLite receives standard request data, and the details of anyone who signs up.
  • AI grammar: The provider selected by the user receives the submitted text and API request.
  • Payments and licensing: Polar and Stripe process purchase data; license validation uses Polar.
  • Support: Email providers process messages and contact details that users choose to send.

What Happens to Your Text

Spell Checking (100% Offline)

  • Where it happens: Entirely on your device
  • Internet required: No
  • Data sent anywhere: No
  • How it works: LexiLint uses local dictionary files bundled with the extension. Your text never leaves your browser.

Grammar Checking (Optional, AI-Powered)

  • Where it happens: Sent to your chosen AI provider (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic Claude)
  • Internet required: Yes
  • Who sees your text: Only the AI provider you choose
  • Your control: You provide your own API key. Ignite App never receives your key or your text.
  • Data storage: Ignite App does not store the text you check. The extension keeps check results, including flagged words and the text around them, in Chrome session storage for the browser session (see Chrome Extension Storage below). Refer to your AI provider's privacy policy for their data handling:

Important: When you use grammar checking, you are directly communicating with the AI provider using YOUR API key. The request goes from your browser to the provider. Ignite App's servers never receive, store or forward your text.

Chrome Extension Storage

LexiLint stores product data through Chrome's extension storage APIs:

  • Local storage: Preferences, custom dictionary words, provider selection, provider API keys, the Premium validation cache, and local diagnostics counts. The validation cache includes a local copy of the licence key. Diagnostics counts are numbers only and are never sent.
  • Sync storage: The authoritative Premium licence key, so Chrome can sync it across browsers signed into the same profile.
  • Session storage: Check results, including flagged words and the text around them, under keys derived from a checked page's origin and path. Tabs on the same path can use the same entry during the browser session.

Chrome storage is not application-provided encryption. Protect access to your device and browser profile. Stored values are not sent to Ignite App merely because Chrome holds them; provider keys go to the selected provider when you request grammar or test the connection, and the licence key goes to Polar when validation is required.

Permissions Explanation

LexiLint requests:

  • storage: Saves the extension data described above.
  • activeTab and <all_urls> host access: Read and highlight visible content on webpages Chrome allows LexiLint to access.
  • alarms: Triggers periodic Premium licence validation.

Manual checks run when you choose Check Spelling or Check Grammar. If you enable Automatically check pages on load, which is off by default, LexiLint also reads supported pages after loading for a local spelling check. It does not send a browsing log to Ignite App.

Third-Party Services

AI Grammar Checking (Optional Feature)

If you choose to use AI grammar checking, LexiLint facilitates communication between your browser and your chosen AI provider. You must:

  1. Create your own account with the AI provider
  2. Generate your own API key
  3. Provide the API key to LexiLint

Supported providers:

Provider availability, retention, usage limits, and charges are controlled by the provider. Review the provider's current privacy policy and terms before enabling grammar checking.

Payment Processing (Premium Features)

If you purchase premium features, payment processing is handled by Polar.sh (powered by Stripe).

What Polar.sh collects:

  • Payment information (handled by Stripe - we never see it)
  • Email address (for license key delivery)
  • Purchase transaction details

What LexiLint sees:

  • License validation status returned by Polar
  • We do not receive your payment card details

License key storage:

  • License keys are stored through Chrome's sync storage
  • License validation requests are sent to Polar
  • Chrome may sync the key across browsers signed in to the same profile, subject to Chrome settings

The monthly plan includes a 7-day free trial managed by Polar. Cancel during the trial to prevent the first charge. Cancelling during a paid month leaves Premium active until the end of that billing period; the unused part of a paid month is not refunded.

A lifetime purchase is a one-time payment with no trial. Lifetime purchases are final and non-refundable. See Section 5 of the Terms.

If You Uninstall

When you remove LexiLint, Chrome opens a short page on our website asking what went wrong. The address carries the version you had installed and nothing else — no identifier, no record of what you checked, no analytics on the page.

It is an ordinary page visit, so our host sees it the way it sees any other. Answering is entirely optional; closing the tab is a perfectly good answer.

Error Logging

LexiLint sends no error reports anywhere. There is no crash reporting, no error monitoring service, and no remote logging of any kind.

Errors are written to your browser's own developer console and go no further. Nothing leaves your device.

Versions 1.1.0 to 1.1.3 used Sentry for error monitoring. It was removed in version 1.1.4.

Data Deletion

  • Remove custom dictionary entries in LexiLint Settings. Settings cannot delete a saved provider key or the licence key; to delete them, remove the extension.
  • Clearing results for the current page removes that page's URL-keyed session entry. Other entries can remain until explicitly cleared or until Chrome ends the extension/browser session; closing one tab is not guaranteed to remove a shared entry.
  • Removing LexiLint clears extension-owned local data. Chrome controls synchronization and retention associated with your signed-in browser profile.
  • For checkout or billing records, use the Polar customer portal or contact Polar. For information sent to an AI provider, contact that provider under its policy.

Children's Privacy

LexiLint is not directed to children. The same feature-specific data flows and third-party provider terms described above apply to every user.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when LexiLint's features or data flows change. Material changes will be reflected here and in the Chrome Web Store privacy declarations before the affected release is submitted.
